Pamela Ronald and Marius Robles: The case for engineering our food

Pamela Ronald studies the genes that make plants more resistant to disease and stress. In an eye-opening talk, she describes her decade-long quest to isolate a gene that allows rice to survive prolonged flooding. She shows how the genetic improvement of seeds saved the Hawaiian papaya crop in the 1990s — and makes the case that modern genetics is sometimes the most effective method to advance sustainable agriculture and enhance food security for our planet’s growing population. The talk
First, we watched a TED talk (english video) of Pamela Ronald. Afterwards Marius Robles presented us various examples of companies who are already creating artificial food.
The discussion
After watching the talk together we discussed about food, feeding the poor and genetic engineering. Each and everyone of you could ask questions to Marius and express opinions thus contributing to our always interesting discussion. We started with this provoquing question: Should we change food genetically?
As always, after the discussion we had the possibility to do networking enjoying drinks and tapas for everyone. (included in the entrance fee)
