On the 17th of May we organized our TEDxBarcelona event with live speakers presenting great ideas. It took place at CosmoCaixa in Barcelona from 14:00 until 20:00.
The theme was: The future of technology and society.

SPEAKERS:

Adrian David CheokAdrian David Cheok: Full Professor at Keio University, Graduate School of Media Design.
He is Founder and Director of the Mixed Reality Lab, Singapore. He was formerly Associate Professor in the National University of Singapore. He has previously worked in real-time systems, soft computing, and embedded computing in Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, Japan.
He has been working on research covering mixed reality, human-computer interfaces, wearable computers and ubiquitous computing, fuzzy systems, embedded systems, power electronics.  (->watch the talk)
 
 
Carles RibotCarles Ribot: Art and Creative Director for advertising agencies such as Ogilvy and Rockabox Creative among others. Over 10 years of experience in the digital media industry, working for clients such as Royal Caribbean, Orange, Custo, La Caixa, FC Barcelona, Eristoff…
Director and founder of Mister Fogg. One of the few production companies in the world specializing in immersive productions through 360 degree panoramic videos. (->watch the talk)
 
 
Nuria OliverNuria Oliver: Ph.D. (with Honors) in Artificial Intelligence and Computational Perception from the Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She is very active in the scientific community with more than 80 publications, thousands of citations and over 30 filed patents. She has received various awards for her work, including a MIT TR100 ‘Young Innovator Award’ (2004) and a Rising Talent Award by the Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society (2009). Currently, she is Scientific Director at Telefónica R&D, Barcelona, Spain. She is responsible for building a top team of researchers in the areas of multimedia data analysis, mobile and ubiquitous computing, big-data analysis with a human-centric perspective and recommender systems. She is passionate about having a positive impact in the world through technological innovation. (->watch the talk)
 
Yvonne RogersYvonne Rogers: Professor of Interaction Design and director of UCLIC at UCL. Her research interests are in the areas of ubiquitous computing, interaction design and human-computer interaction. A central theme is how to design interactive technologies that can enhance life by augmenting and extending everyday, learning and work activities. This involves informing, building and evaluating novel user experiences through creating and assembling a diversity of pervasive technologies.
Yvonne has been awarded a prestigious EPSRC dream fellowship (until Sept’13) rethinking the relationship between ageing, computing and creativity. (->watch the talk)
 
Marcela RiccilloMarcela Riccillo: Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a researcher in Robotics, who gives lectures about Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at universities and institutes, and beside that she writes articles for science and technology magazines. Furthermore, she participates as a jury in competition of robots at universities. She studies various years chinese, corean, japanese, english, german. (->watch the talk)
 
Marta SorianoMarta Soriano: Marta Soriano created ECOART in 1996 and in year 2000 she founded the association ECOART-DIDACTIC with the purpose of make the society more aware of environmental problems, through art, education and architecture.
Since then, she has decorated a big number of companies and institutions within Spain and many other countries. She organizes and gives art workshops, out of recycled objects, for children, adults and teachers worldwide.
Her goal: to promote new applications of non organic solid residues in the artistic creation, environmental education and architecture. (->watch her talk)
 
 
Julian SavulescuJulian Savulescu: Australian philosopher and bioethicist. He is Uehiro Professor of Practical Ethics at the University of Oxford, Fellow of St Cross College, Oxford, Director of the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics, Sir Louis Matheson Distinguished Visiting Professor at Monash University, and Head of the Melbourne–Oxford Stem Cell Collaboration, which is devoted to examining the ethical implications ofcloning and embryonic stem cell research.

Paul VerschurePaul Verschure: Research professor with the Catalan Institute of Advanced Studies (ICREA) and director of the Center of Autonomous Systems and Neurorobotics and the laboratory of Synthetic Perceptive, Emotive and Cognitive Systems at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, Spain.

Patrick HaggardPatrick Haggard: Professor at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London. He has received various awards and honours for his work, including recent Research Fellowships from the Royal Society, Leverhulme Trust and Economic and Social Science Research Council. His research interests include the neural control of human action, the conscious experience of voluntary action, and the neural and psychological aspects of body representation. He has published over 200 scientific papers, and has received research funding from UK and European agencies, industrial partners and international charitable foundations. (->watch the talk)
 
Thomas MetzingerThomas Metzinger: German philosopher. As of 2000 he holds the position of director of the theoretical philosophy group at the department of philosophy at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and is an Adjunct Fellow at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies and on the advisory board of the Giordano Bruno Foundation.
Metzinger is director of the MIND group and president of German Cognitive Science Society and Director of Neuroethics Unit. As a co-founder, he has been particularly active in the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness (ASSC), sat on the board of directors from 1995 to 2008 and served as president in 2009/10. Luis CastellanosLuis Castellanos: PhD in Philosophy. Investigates and discovers language and development of a theory about language beginning with neuroscience and ending with ethics.
Investigates the positive linguistic expressions and their impact in the evolution of language. Expert in the efficiency of creative processes, studies the emotional dimension of words and their influence in decision making. Works in the area of predictive analysis of the human behavior.
Founder and director of “El Jardín de Junio”, center for cognitive neuroscience in the corporate world, education and sports. (->watch the talk)
