Briggs Stephen Briggs Stephen is heading the Department of “Earth Observation” (EO) Science, Applications & Future Technologies of ESA at ESRIN (Frascati), where he is responsible for the exploitation of ESA EO missions (for science, public sector, including GMES, and commercial applications), future technologies programme, studies relating to future missions, interface between ESA’s EO missions with user communities (including consultation, managing requirements and providing scientific advice to the Agency), and ensuring Scientific support and providing application expertise in the development and exploitation phase of all missions and programmes.


Tmas Molina Tomas Molina Tomas Molina is an associate professor at the University of Barcelona. He has a degree in Physical Sciences and Journalism. He is currently the Head of Catalonia Television Meteorology and Vice-Chairman of the International Association of Broadcast Meteorology, IABM, with observer status in the World Meteorological Organization United Nations System.


Barbara Ryan Barbara Ryan Barbara J. Ryan is Secretariat Director of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) an international, intergovernmental organization dedicated to integrating Earth observations to enable government, private sector and science leaders to make better informed decisions across nine Societal Benefit Areas including agriculture, biodiversity, climate, ecosystems, energy, disasters, health, water and weather. Prior to GEO, she served as Director of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Space Programme and Associate Director for Geography at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).


Tomas Diez Tomas Diez Diez, is a Venezuela born Urbanist specialized in digital fabrication and its implications on the future cities models. He is permanent faculty at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), and one of the initiators of the Fab Lab Barcelona project, which he currently directs. Co-founder of the Smart Citizen project and StudioP52 both in Barcelona. Works as a close collaborator with the Fab Foundation and the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms in the development of the Fab Lab Network worldwide. He is currently the main consultant for the Barcelona city council for the development of the “Ateneus de Fabricació (Fab Labs)” in the city.


Joerg Hahn Joerg Hahn Within the teams at the European Space Agency (ESA) Jörg Hahn is the System Engineering Manager for the European satellite navigation system Galileo. He is also investigating future needs of the society in location based service features.He is supporting the EC on technical and managerial matters. Jörg is a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Frequency and Time Forum (EFTF ) and of the GPS World Advisory Board. Together with colleagues he gives Galileo Tutorials occasionally, e.g. for NavTech GPS.


Denis Delestrac Denis Delestrac made his debut in non-fiction filmmaking in 2001 and signed a number of hits including IMAX blockbuster “Mystery of the Nile” and “Pax Americana and the Weaponization of Space”, his first feature documentary. Selected in major international film festivals and acclaimed by the critics, the film reveals how space has become the newest arena for countries around the globe to launch their struggle for supremacy. His latest feature documentary, “Sand Wars” is an epic eco-thriller that takes the audience around the globe to unveil a new gold rush and a disturbing fact: we are running out of sand!


Luis Razo Luis Razo Luis Razo is a business and social entrepreneur raised in Orange County, California. He studied psychometrics at Harvard University and for the past 25 years has been thinking and working on the intersection between business, philosophy and social science. He is the Executive Director of a leading Euopean knowledge management consulting firm and founder of the International Voluntary Tax Fund, a non-profit organization whose mission is to stimulate dialogue among business, political and academic leaders about the next phase in the evolution of democracy.


Daniele Quercia Daniele Quercia Daniele Quercia is a social media researcher at Yahoo Labs in Barcelona. He is interested in the relationship between online and offline worlds and his work has been focusing in the areas of data mining, computational social science, and urban informatics. He was Horizon senior researcher at The Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge and, before that, Postdoctoral Associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During his PhD at UC London, he was a Microsoft Research PhD Scholar and his thesis was nominated for BCS Best British PhD dissertation in Computer Science.


Didac Ferrer Didac Ferrer Didac Ferrer-Balas (Barcelona, 1974) graduated as an industrial & materials engineer since 1997. He obtained a doctorate in materials science in 2001 from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC-Barcelona Tech). Since 2000 he is working in the area of sustainability at the UPC in different positions. In 2011, he co-founded the non-profit Cooperative Tarpuna Sustainable Initiatives. There, he has been involved in the project Hort Social (awarded by La Caixa-IESE in 2012) and invented the Infinitloop (awarded by Generalitat de Catalunya for Eco Design) in 2013.


Ivan Caballero Ivan Caballero Ivan Caballero is a social entrepreneur and Internet executive from Barcelona with over 17 years of experience, including general management of mid to large size organizations, corporate development, product development, business operations, and strategy. In the past 10 years, Ivan has launched different technological innovation companies. Ivan has a degree in Business administration, a postgraduate in International Business and two masters in International Marketing in some of the best European Business Schools. Ivan began his professional career holding different senior level positions in some multinational companies in the distribution and high technology sectors, and then continued his career as a serial entrepreneur with a profound social motivation.
