Albert Cañigeral: The challenges of the sharing economy

From interchaning of flats to shared cars, from ‘crowdfunding’ to ‘coworking’, from microlending to P2P-finance.

The so-called shared economy is not a “doing-good” tendency on the internet. It represents a profound and important change to our society which impacts the whole international economy. The fact that more and more people are sharing their belongings – their car, house or even their electricity – whenever they do not use it, or that people search first for used products before approaching a store is changing completely the rules of the game. Albert Cañigeral

Uber, BlaBlaCar and Airbnb are the most known, but according to recent studies, only in Spain there are about 400 startups which try to grap a share from this growing market of sharing economy which despite the crisis (or maybe because of it) has taken mainstream.

The talk (19:00-19:30)
“Having access to something is better than owning it”, says Albert Cañigueral, founder of www.consumocolaborativo.com and responsible for Spain and Latin America of Ouishare, the global reference network of the unstoppable alternative to the economy of ‘buy to buy’.
Albert, considered by many as the spanish guru of the shared economy, will talk about this new economic, social and cultural model and will open our mind to this new situation which is based on values like trust.

The discussion (19:30-20:30)
After his talk we discussed among all of us about the future of the current system, shared economy, changes, challenges and opportunities it generates, as well as the role of technology in all this. And of course, we talked about how much are we in Barcelona sharing already, and willing to share. All attendees asked questions and expressed their opinion, adding thus value to our interesting discussion.

The networking (20:30-21:30)
Like always, we finished the event with networking offering tapas and drinks for everyone (included in the ticket).
