Will we soon design and produce our clothes at home? Will fashion factories disappear and also all the stores? Will the fashion industry become more ethical and sustainable? For Danit Peleg, fashion designer and expert in new technologies, the day in which this will happen is closer than ever. The 1st of March we watched a (short, 6-min) video in which Danit explains us how a design project at a fashion school ended up in a collection of 3d-printed designs in her own home.

After watching the video, we discussed about this idea together with two fashion experts which helped us to understand this subject better: Laura Clèries and Sylvia Calvo. Laura is an expert in materials and textile innovation, Sylvia is an expert in sustainability.

Laura Clèries In order to help us finding answers to all of our questions, we invited Laura Clèries, consultant, designer and university teacher at the Instituto Europeo di Design (IED). Being both scientific as well as creative, she works in the intersection between innovation, design, textile, color and materials, technology, trends and future products. With more than 20 years of professional experience, she worked for material companies, design studios and international fashion companies.

Sylvia Calvo We also invited Sylvia Calvo. Sylvia is chairwoman of the association Asociación Moda Sostenible BCN (MSBCN). Its goal is to show the advantages of sustainable fashion both in social aspects as well as in environmental and economical aspects. The association works also to improve and stimulate its creation and use. Sylvia has a vision: to convert Barcelona and Catalonia into an international reference for sustainable fashion. Furthermore, with her brand Sylvia Calvo BCN she produces ecologic garments. The base material for these garments are coffee bags.

We started showing a TED Talk about the selected subject (video in English with Spanish subtitles). It gave us a base for the following discussion.

The discussion (19:15-20:30)
After watching the talk we discussed about the subject. The discussion was moderated by our hosts. They helped us to get some insight into the presented subject.

Networking (20:30-21:30)
As always we finished the event with a networking session while we were invited to some drinks and some delicious tapas.
