TEDxBarcelonaSalon - which democracy do we want?


About this event :

After the Brexit-referendum in GB and general elections in Spain, many of us were very surprised about the outcomes. How did that happen? Why did people vote that way, what were their reasons?
At our Salon event we analyzed both events and discussed them further. We analyzed why the peoples in GB and in Spain vote like this and what were their motivations. But we also dug deeper and analyzed the voter turnout, talked about the election system in Spain, looked at different kinds of democracy and finally also asked ourselves if democracy is the right tool and if we need more or less democracy.
Ferran Requejo

In order to provide us academical background to the discussion, we invited to this event Ferran Requejo, professor of political and social sciences at UPF in Barcelona. Ferran received various prizes for his work and has not only published various books but is also a frequent contributor in newspapers Ara and La Vanguardia. He gave us an introduction into this subject and also moderated the discussion.
The event schedule was as follows:

The talk (19:00-19:30)
We started with a talk from Ferran Requejo where he introduced us into the subject. It gave us a base for the following discussion.

The discussion (19:30-20:30)
After listening to his talk we discussed about the subject together with our guest, Ferran Requejo.

Networking (20:30-21:30)
As always we finished the event with a networking session while we were invited to some drinks and some delicious tapas (included in the ticket price).
